One mans dream

In 2006 Douglas, a quiet unassuming teacher from Nairobi,
pondering on the big problem of orphans and children in his locality.Around him he saw aimless families, orphans, unemployed, stagnation , lack of opportunity,. and loss
of self worth and respect.

He approached a group of friends and between them they made a pledge that they would each contribute 1000Ksch from their own pocket each month, and that this cash
would be used to start up and run a school in the heart
of the slums.

It was this humble beginning, and a uniting of the local populance, that gave birth to THE INGRID EDUCATION CENTRE.

The school was constructed from wood and tin on land which is rented. It covers 48 square metres and now serves as a daily home to 87 plus pupils. a pre-school group, a residents association, a learning skills centre for women and girls to learn home based work and much more.Every day Douglas and five volunteer helpers ensure the childrens education and also provide one cooked mid-day meal. That meal is probably the only meal those children will see untill the next day.

The "working with the community" approach has now got a regular monthly clean up campaign going in which everyone takes part, this is to give those not yet in school a reason to be part of.

The dream of one man has grown over the two short years
it first set seed ,and now its time to give him the means for it to flourish.

The current rent is 10000Ksch a month..the land value 700000Ksch. The aim now is to buy that land from the owners ,and to enlarge ,and build a solid school with
all of its benefits. Each square metre is up for sponsership at approx £120 pound .There are 48 squares that require sponsorship.

I believe that all good people everywhere would agree
that here is one dream that deserves completion. You can all help, and whether its a metre or less in value, your donation or sponsorship will build a long lasting symbol
of hope to the wonderful children of Kenya.

The full detail are on the kenya aid appeals domain.
Check the top menu and click onto the INGRID link..I
know that when you see the faces of those children in "Class" you will also see love, devotion, caring and above all hope for the future.

Contributor's Note

with the ever increasing World inflation the need becomes greater. We must all climb off the fence, and become involved ,if the future for the World as a whole is to be retained with balance.
